E-mail: [email protected]; Tel.: 91-22-23693509 Dengue fever (DF) is endemic in India and causes dengue fever, its severe form dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) and dengue shock syndrome (DSS). Hypotension due to intravascular depletion due to capillary leak is common in DHF and DSS. However, myocardial dysfunction is also seen with DHF/ DSS and could be responsible for hypotension and shock.[1] Cardiac involvement in the form of decreased left ventricular performance[2] and arrhythmias[3,4] are known. However, isolated myocarditis has rarely been seen with dengue virus.[5] We report an 11-year-old boy who presented with viral myocarditis due to dengue infection, with complete recovery within three months.

Ventricular trigeminy in a patient with serologically confirmed dengue haemorrhagic fever
BACKGROUND Cardiac arrhythmias occur during the acute stage of Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever. Dengue myocarditis is the most likely cause of the arrhythmias. CASE PRESENTATION We report a 55-year-old patient with Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever presenting with transient ventricular trigeminy which has not been reported before. CONCLUSION Among many other known cardiac arrhythmia seen in DHF, ventricu...

The authors report two cases of complicated dengue viral infection with acute myocarditis involving young male adults, of which one was fatal. The first case presented with typical signs of myocardial disease: chest pain and diaphoresis with myocardial depression in the electrocardiograph. The second case deteriorated rapidly and demised within the first day of admission. Histology of the heart...
متن کاملDengue Cardiac Infection, A Brief Review
Dear Editors: Dengue is an important mosquito-borne viral disease which is prevalent in many tropical countries. The cardiac complications in dengue are not common. Here, the details of dengue cardiac infection are briefly reviewed. Myocarditis is the most common documented cardiac pathology in dengue, however, only a few cases are reported in the world literature. Wiwanitkit proposed a probabl...

METHODS This was a descriptive and prospective study which was carried out between March 2005 and October 2005 involving 102 patients suffering from DHF, based on WHO criteria. These children were followed-up to identify signs of myocarditis. RESULTS 10.7 % of the children had sign...
متن کاملAcute fulminant myocarditis in a case of dengue fever: A case report
Dengue fever is a potentially life-threatening vector-borne tropical disease caused by a single-stranded positive-sense ribonucleic acid virus belonging to the Flaviviridae family. Outbreaks have increased in severity over the past few years, especially in developing countries in South Asia[1]. While dengue fever is a self-limiting illness in the majority of patients, about 0.5% of patients dev...
